Plot[]
"Your mission is to save the target."
The series begins with a view of the Moon, which starts to bend in unnatural way. A news reporter inside a Helicopter then announced that Nem, a national celebrity, is currently kidnapped by an evil organization, causing worry on the citizens. Amidst the wake of panic, an Agent is ordered by his Superior to save Nem, reassuring a crying female fan by conjuring a handkerchief out of nowhere. Meanwhile, on the Criminal Hideout, the Mastermind behind Nem's kidnapping exclaimed that they had successfully amassed a total of ¥10.000.000.000.000 (Ten Billion Yen) of Ransom Money in just a week, much to his lackeys joy. Predictably, he had no intent to let Nem survive the night, and decides to kill her after cashing the Ten Billion Yen worth of Ransom money. Instead of fearing for her own life however, Nem ordered the Mastermind to return the money back to the people, In return, the fed-up Mastermind ordered one of his lackeys to kill Nem immediately.
As a lackey is about to shoot her, he's interfered by another lackey, who brought an army knife with him. As the knifed lackey approaches, instead of stabbing Nem, he freed her by cutting the rope. The knifed lackey then removed his disguise, revealing the previous agent, much to the Mastermind's bewilderment and fury. The agent introduces himself as Code Number : Seven, an agent from a secret defense organization : CODE, although the sudden appearance of his cowlick hair appalled him for a moment. Nevertheless, Seven announced to his superior that he's about to start his mission, before a shootout between Seven and the Criminal Organization begin in the earnest!
Despite being outnumbered, Seven somehow manages to defeat each and every of the Mastermind's lackey despite only using Rubber Bullets. The mastermind then decides to bring Nem outside in a chokehold before throwing her from a high place. Fortunately, Seven saves her in the nick of time, and even defeat the Mastermind with a single shot. Nem thanked Seven and inquires his name, only for Seven to reply that he's just a nameless agent, while conjuring a pink rose on his hand. As Nem and Seven is about to kiss, a lackey rose up, opened her hood and shouted to Seven to Wake Up while holding a soup ladle?!
Turns out, all the previous action sequence is only a lucid dream of Seven's alter ego, Baku Yorozu. Baku is jolted awake with the same woman lackey, his sister, Minami Yorozu, by hitting his head with the ladle. Minami immediately scolded Baku for not making breakfast today, and for letting his yesterday clothes unhanged. Minami also sarcastically remarked that she wished to be able to Lucid Dream into Agent like him every night. In response, Baku simply wished if only he could control reality like that, he might be able to help a lot of people. Baku also mentioned that he better find a job to lessen Minami's burden, however, Minami harshly objected Baku's intention before promptly apologizing to her big brother.
The scene then shifted to Baku on his job hunting. After watching an encouraging advertisement by Nem, Baku attempted to land a job at a publishing company. However, just before he could proceed further, a single mother worriedly shouted for her daughter, Kaede in the hallway. Baku is quick to realize that the girl he interacted before his application process is Kaede, and that the man she's with is not Kaede's parent. Baku quickly give chase, and unknowingly passed a mysterious man in the Dream World that announced it's time to realize their Nightmare. Not long after that, Baku is fatally hit by a car, which is witnessed by a worried inspector named Tetsuya Fujimi. Baku is quickly admitted to a nearby hospital, and is quickly visited by a worried Minami. Baku admitted that he want to change his fate in real world, just like what he did every night inside his dream, and Minami immediately lamented about Baku's cataclysmic fate of receiving absurd misfortune every time he attempted to do good. Minami scolded Baku to keep his dream as it is, despite Baku's optimistic remark that he'll survive every bad luck he receives as always. Unknown to everyone present, a door with a woman statue somewhere opened ominously...
Meanwhile, at Baku's accident location, a female inspector named Nasuka Nagumo approach Tetsuya and states that she'll be working under him from now on. Nasuka immediately inquires the nature of the said accident, and Tetsuya affirmed her question, only to add that the car is Unmanned at the time of the accident. The revelation baffled Nasuka, and Tetsuya continues that this is not the first time an absurd, inexplicable incident happened. Tetsuya then produces list of reports of mysterious deaths, disappearances, and other paranormal incidents like this one and revealed that he found a lead for the causes of these incidents : supernatural beings called Nightmares.
As Night fall, Baku is sleeping at the Hospital when a Nightmare visited his ward and looming ominously above him. The monster appearance scared the young man, and it terror continues by shooting real bullets at an escaping Baku. Predictably, Baku run for his life and attempts to call for help, however the Nightmare quickly shifted his locations, from the street, to the publishing company, and lastly his room, all while taunting that Baku is afraid of his demise. Baku then run some more, attempting to call for Minami until he accidentally opened the door with the woman statue. There, he found Nem tied with a rope just like his first dream, but instead of the evil organization, the Gun Nightmare showed in his full form. Realizing something, Baku laughed and deduces that he's currently dreaming, as the phenomenon he experiences is too absurd to be true. Baku quickly dons his persona as Code Number: Seven and proclaimed that he's an Invincible Agent.
Despite Baku's bravado, Gun Nightmare proved to be superior and immediately outpowered a frustrated Baku. Gun Nightmare then mocked Baku that his lucid dream is a mere delusion, a meant to escape from his unfair real life. Baku attempted to run away, only to be haunted by the illusion of Kaede and Minami, who mocked him that he cannot save anyone, and will always stay that way until he dies. In real life, Baku flatlined due to the Nightmare intervention and relentless assault on both his physical and mental, prompting the doctor to try resuscitating him. Even after all that torment, Baku remained optimistic on his survival & declared that he know his own mind better than anyone, and that it ss okay to reshape his dream whichever he wanted. Then, as if to answer Baku's conviction, someone pulled Baku to a shining door.
Behind the door, lies the secret base of CODE. As Baku still processing his predicament, Zero greeted him in english and explained that this place is Baku's own subconscious mind. He then complimented Baku for his preservation and gifted him the Zeztz Driver and Impact Capsem, announcing that it's time to make Baku's dream come true. With newfound resolve and confidence, Baku stepped out from CODE base and confronted Gun Nightmare directly. He quickly declared his mission to Save The Target (Nem) before equipping the Zeztz Driver onto his chest, the act allows Baku's heart in real life to restart. Finally, using the Impact Capsem, Baku transformed into Kamen Rider Zeztz!
As Zeztz, Baku quickly overwhelmed Gun Nightmare with his raw power and successfully dragged the Nightmare outside the building, fully intending to carry out the mission he has given. Gun Nightmare attempted to restrain Baku by summoning numerous chain, but Baku declared that the dream is belonged to him. Zeztz then restrained Gun Nightmare with the very same chain, and throwing the monster into several landscapes such as waterfall, volcano, and river engulfed with thunderstorms. Baku finally destroyed the Gun Nightmare with his Impact Banish finisher, hereby completing his mission. With Gun Nightmare demise, Nem is also freed from her shackles, although she quickly disappears.
Back in real life, Baku finally awaken from his dream and is greeted by Minami. Baku tells his sister that he experience a weird dream, although he did save someone as a result, much to her annoyance as she left. Outside Baku's ward, Tetsuya and Nasuka observed, with Nasuka voiced her disbelief over Nightmares existence. As Tetsuya reaffirmed his belief, the unknown man in the dream world dropped a vase and cryptically exclaimed that when the dream goes to sleep, the world shall awaken to the true Nightmare. The episode ends as Baku found out that the Zeztz Driver is attached to his chest in real life as well, much to his and Tetsuya bewilderment, before the Zeztz phone beside Baku replayed Zero's voice message, greeting Baku as Code Number : Seven.
Only then Baku realize, everything he experiences is not a mere dream...
